To help end modern-day slavery, I can change my own consumer practices and continue to educate myself on the issues. I will support organizations and people around the world who believe that slavery can end in our lifetime. I believe that, too. @weller_world#ucendsslavery
Buying fair trade coffee helps end modern-day slavery by ensuring livable wages and suitable working environments for every person in the production process. #ucendsslavery
My perception has changed on a lot of issues this semester. Primarily, though, I learned that modern-day slavery is not a hopeless problem. It is fightable and there are thousands of organizations, and people, around the world working nonstop to end it. #ucendsslavery
The most surprising, and unsettling, statistic I learned this semester is that an estimated 45 million people are currently enslaved worldwide. #ucendsslavery
My favorite presentation this semester was from @ArunaProject. The presenter was engaging, knowledgable, and enthusiastic. And the organization's holistic approach to healing, coupled with their commitment to sustainable employment, is inspiring. @weller_world#ucendsslavery
During a presentation by the @YWCACincinnati, I learned that nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S. That's 1 person every 3 seconds. Every 3 seconds. Let that sink in. #ucendsslavery

This week in class, we heard the story of @hvdsouza. He and his family are survivors of slavery right here in Cincinnati. I was deeply humbled by his words and his dedication to bettering the world. May we all live like him: "Be happy. Be empowered. Be thankful." #ucendsslavery
I really admired @josephinesclin's use of people-first language in her presentation. One example being, "She's not 'a drug addict'... she suffers from drug addiction." I am going to intentionally try to reshape the way I define people, as well. #ucendsslavery
There are many barriers that prevent survivors of gender-based violence from reporting their assaults. Examples of barriers include: victim blaming, confusion, and fear of retaliation. Advocates from @WHWempower are committed to removing barriers on UC's campus. #ucendsslavery

Sex trafficking is a brutal industry that deeply, and harmfully, impacts not only the individuals being trafficked, but their families as well. The young women in #IamJaneDoe are incredibly brave for sharing their stories. And their families are too. @jes_chastain#ucendsslavery
