Recalcitrant Female TikToker almost loses her life After Defying Taboo That Bars Women From Seeing Oloolu Masquerade in Ibadan

According to online reports, a female TikTok content creator underwent traditional cleansing rites after recording a procession linked to the 2026 Oloolu Masquerade Festival in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The spokesperson to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Adeola Oloko, said the woman mistakenly recorded Alawo Oloolu and not the sacred Oloolu masquerade.

“She did not capture Oloolu; she mistook it for Alawo.” He said the woman reportedly became ill after posting the footage online, prompting her family to seek help from the traditional custodians.

“After posting it, she realised the blood in her body began to dry.” Oloko added that the woman was attended to in line with the customs of the land, stressing that “women are not supposed to see Oloolu” and urging people to obey the tradition.

Videos circulating online showed the woman with a shaved head, dressed in red attire and participating in traditional rites. Meanwhile, Ibadan-based content creator Ayo Adams said officials at the Oloolu compound confirmed the woman has reunited with her family and is recovering after the prescribed rites.

However, The Oyo State Police Command said it has no information on the incident because no formal report was made.
