In honor of women's day, I'm sharing one of the underrated female empowerment films in Philippine cinema — Manny Castañeda's APRIL, MAY, JUNE (1998) starring Agot Isidro, Chin-chin Gutierrez, and Alma Concepcion in the titular characters respectively.
There's something about this film that feels so refreshingly timely and hilarious, probably even ahead of its time. Three best friends dealing with three different societal pressures women were facing during that time yet 28 years later still feels relevant. Plus, Cherry Pie Picache serving main best friend energy with all her sassy and witty lines.
As a side, this was released March of 1998, probably a Women's Day presentation from Star Cinema, and I remember my birthday wish then was to watch this in the theaters because I had the biggest crush on Agot Isidro growing up (as an Oki Dok kid).
