GradCatch project will study the effects of climate change on soil microorganisms along altitudinal, latitudinal and aridity gradients. Project @BiodiversaPlus
How is soil functioning shaped by aridity? 🌲🌵 We studied this along a natural aridity gradient.
📌 Microbial structure shifted with aridity, but soil functions were mainly driven by local soil properties.

Huge thanks to all coauthors 🫶 @gradcatch
Aridity doesn’t shape soil functions but does change microbial community composition? 🤔 Check out my poster (PS2.26.002) on Tuesday, 16:30h at #ISME19 for the details! 🙌🏼 @ISME_microbes@IEA_UdG@GRECO_UdG@gradcatch
⛰️ How does mountain soils impact #ClimateChange?
@gradcatch (#BiodivClim) links greenhouse gas emissions with altitude, soil microbes and organic matter. The tipping point: Treeline!

Check out our latest publication @Geoderma_Jrnl on the significant role of soil organic matter quantity and composition in driving microbial activities and greenhouse gas fluxes in Swiss mountains @gradcatch . Thanks to all the co-authors: https://t.co/kzbsutUDTJ
⛰️Mountains cover over 25% of our planet, harboring biodiversity hotspots and mitigating climate change.
🔎Look into projects like #FishME (aquatic ecosystems), #RangeX (plant expansions), and #GRADCATCH (soil microorganisms), which focus on mountain regions!

Our PhD student @aannadomenech won the 3rd prize 🏆 in the contest "Thesis in 4 Minuts", organized by @univgirona.
Anna talked about the relationship between Climate Change and the decomposition of organic matter, measured through tea bags degradation 🍵 Congrats Anna!

Today testing CO2 amb CH4 accumulation rates in soil cores.
@gradcatch@IEA_UdG@BiodiversaPlus. No real calculations yet 🤭, but it looks like the more severe the drought has been the higher the rate increase after rewetting. mRNA work will tell who is doing the job 🦠
Super excited to present the results on GHG emissions and microbial activities in soils from Swiss alps, part of @gradcatch project, @BiodiversaPlus @WSL_research , at @ Swiss microbial ecology meeting @supsi_ch in the Italian (Ticino) part of Switzerland.😜🤪

Super nice to collect the tea bags and ibutton with @HanXingguo and Jonathan Donhauser after one year from the German site between Hannover and Göttingen, which is part of the European gradient @gradcatch@BiodiversaPlus @WSL_research. And lots of fun to Camp afterwards😜
Happy to be back in Piz Umbrail after 1 yr for @BiodiversaPlus with @FrossardAline @HanXingguo from @WSL_research , and @JB_Ramond and his students from Chile. Nice to see soil cores are still there, and microbes ate sponge and tea under cold! 🏔️🦠
Time to start @gradcatch@BiodiversaPlus sampling along Swiss altitudinal gradient. First site at Lausanne from LWF sites @WSL_research, now heading to Swiss Alps⛰️ (Val Müstair) with @FrossardAline @JB_Ramond @HanXingguo and colleagues from Chile. Looking forward to the sampling
First time at #ISME18 to show our very interesting results of GHG fluxes and microbial functions in alpine soils from @gradcatch@BiodiversaPlus @WSL_research. So happy to meet lots of old friends!
PhD sampling campaign finished!! ✨ So glad with all the work done... Thanks @HanXingguo and @jpcasasruiz to make this possible (and more enjoyable) 🙌🏼
@gradcatch@IEA_UdG
With today's work we have finished the most southern sampling point in Spain 📍It is amazing to collect our samples (that have been there for a year) with these amazing views. Thanks to EEZA (@CSIC) for your help and hospitality. #DesiertoTabernas
