@BillieCotter @ANTHONYBLOGAN Choosing not to testify is always a balancing test for a criminal defendant: You don’t get to tell “your side” but you also don’t open yourself up to cross examination and get stuck answering questions that could hurt your case. Very common for criminal defendants not to testify.

@Brien_Jackson Well the other problem here is that, per witnesses, there was no reasonable way for Karmelo to feel his life was in danger at any point. If Austin had brandished a weapon to persuade him to leave the tent and Karmelo then stabbed him, self defense would be a more credible claim.

@BillieCotter @ANTHONYBLOGAN Had Karmelo testified for the defense, he’d have faced cross examination by the prosecutor, who would have confronted him with everything the other witnesses had said about his words and actions leading up the stabbing. He would have gotten destroyed.
