Sarah Wakefield (the Greens candidate in Makerfield): "The fundamental problem we have.. is that we're building on 40yrs of deindustrialisation topped off by 15yrs of austerity.. we're all feeling it.. we should be looking at the massive inequality in this country.."

As if cutting jobs isn't a crisis. The lack of awareness of how we reached this point by senior managers is a deliberate hope that the rest of us will not notice their role in that crisis. The continuous strategy to make everyone else pay will not address their disaster.
The v-c of Goldsmiths, University of London, has accused his local union branch of “not facing up to the harsh financial realities” that the institution faces as its members begin an indefinite strike, warning that the university will be “severely threatened by August 2027” without cuts. Back on the picket lines at Glasgow Caledonian University today.
Staff, students, and the picket pups are standing together to save 100 jobs.

Staff pay the price
Those at the top? CBEs, not consequences. Those who didn't understand "listed building" status have moved upward

The consequences of the marketisation of Higher Education: #SaveSheffieldHallam#UCU#HE#StopTheCuts
Our dispute is about saving jobs & the preserving a quality education for our students ✊️
Solid pickets and great turnout @GCU_UCU strike to defend 100 jobs and say no to compulsory redundancies. Hearing from branch president Karen Lorimer that university has no deficit and cuts are a choice not a necessity #StopTheCuts#SaveHE#SaveTheGCU100
GCU staff are on the picket line this morning. Fighting for jobs.
There is no deficit. GCU runs surpluses and holds cash reserves. These cuts are a choice.
In 2022/3, the undergraduate subject area with the highest unemployment rate was Computing, followed by Maths, Law, and Business and Management.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a UK pundit say that people should think twice about a Computing degree.
Fighting not only for our jobs but the future of education and thus the country.
Your fight is our fight, and our fight yours.
Together we will win this and save our universities.
#solidarity
UCU Hallam are serious about negotiating over 130 proposed job losses, including redundancies and the systematic erosion of our members' terms & conditions. The university is not serious about working with us or delivering high quality education. #SaveSheffieldHallam#UCU
🚨BREAKING | Labour MP Nadia Whittome has tabled a motion to REJECT the EHRC bathroom ban "guidance".

Take a slave owner or residential school founder’s name off a street or remove a statue and there’ll be endless screaming about preserving history. But when Israel destroys Tyre - older than all European capitals - in Lebanon and destroys ancient monuments it’s silence.
