As a teen, he wrote to Lovecraft asking for permission to kill Lovecraft in a story. Lovecraft sent a letter granting free reign to obliterate, transmogrify, annihilate, etc. his person.
Bloch wrote The Shambles From the Stars, in which an unnamed “Providence dreamer” gets eaten.
Lovecraft responded with The Haunter of the Dark in which “Robert Blake” (obviously Bloch) is killed by a horror beyond description.
So they each destroyed one another and we got 2 cool stories out of it. Three even, because after Lovecraft died, Bloch wrote The Shadow From the Steeple - a sequel to Haunter of the Dark.
What an appalling choice by the publisher to submit gen AI covers for their authors' books to a CONTEST, and I'm glad the awards pushed back against the use of gen AI and disqualified them. Heartbroken for the authors who didn't know, though.

‘Freedom from Want,’ is not Rockwell’s attempt to journalistically document white people having a good time. It is an aspirational painting about ending poverty and hunger. ‘The Problem We All Live With,’ is a painting about Rockwell’s historical present.
