This week, a resolution on the status of the Human Rights Council, led by 🇮🇪 @IrelandAmbUN and 🇸🇳 Ambassador Coly Seck, was adopted in the General Assembly.
Following a process of review, with consultations in New York and Geneva, this resolution:
✅ reaffirms the status of the HRC as a subsidiary body of the General Assembly; and provides for a future review;
In that context, it also recognises:
✅ the importance of adequate, sustainable financing for the HRC and its mechanisms; and
✅ ongoing cooperation between the General Assembly and the HRC.
We thank all delegations for their constructive engagement.
Today, Ireland addressed the #UNSC Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict.
This year, the UN verified the highest number of grave violations against children since the #CAAC mandate was established 30 years ago, recording a 34% increase in the killing of children.
The protection of children is not an aspiration. It is an obligation.
🇮🇪 reiterates its call to all parties to conflict to comply by their obligations under international humanitarian law and to end these violations against the most innocent and vulnerable.

Our collective response must centre their rights and the imperative of inclusion.
