'Spot the difference' Skandar book 4 signing in Canterbury Waterstones @WaterstonesRose with @annabelwriter vs Skandar book 3 signing in the same location earlier in the year. Both had to be done before (or after) football matches hence the clothes.
@DanWuori We always gave my son board books in the morning in bed to look at when he was tiny, continued it with other suitable books when he was older (no TV/other tech in the mornings). Now at nearly 13 he never just gets out of bed (unless on a school day), he has to read first.
@paolini My son, who is a big fan of the Eragon books, wanted to share with you a project he did at school - 'a matchbox scene of you favourite book' - the cover is copied from the original edition of Eragon and inside is a 3D scene showing Eragon finding the dragon egg.
@annabelwriter We are hoping you will still be there signing at 12:30β¦ My son has a football game he has to attend but is really hoping he manages to have his third book signed. He met you twice in Canterbury Waterstones already and is a big fan of Skandar!
@DanWuori Naps seemed to be very important when my son was little but now, I can't even remember when he dropped them! He is 12 years old now and a bookworm who loves reading. Bedtime routine, starting from babyhood, was always reading, even now we share a book some of the evenings.
@DanWuori My son came home one day early on in reception (reception in UK starts when a child is 4 years old) quite angry as they teacher gave him a book to 'read' at home with pictures only and no words. He knew reading meant words and he felt really cheated.
@TaranMatharu1@HarperVoyagerUS What make is an adult read? Is there explicit sexual content in it? My 12-year old loved your Summoner series and loves dragons so I was considering this for him.
@paolini@PenguinUKBooks@Waterstones My son was really disappointed he missed this event - he was really unwell last week and couldn't attend. He is 12 and a very big fan of the Inheritance Cycle which is his favourite book series. Maybe one day you will come back to UK...
@essexwriter@wurdsmyth I have a 12-year-old bookworm at home who is very much into fantasy. His best series are: Eragon by Christopher Paolini, Summoner by Taran Matharu, Bartimaeus by Jonathan Stroud. Also, you can't go wrong with Hobbit at this age, it's a great story.
@jonnybid@NEUnion From a parent's perspective - finding books with subjects my son (now 12 and an avid reader) is interested in is key. Also no TV or any screens allowed first thing in the morning meant he had/has nothing better to do than read. Might not work for everyone but it did for us.
@whatSFSaid When my son was 6, I told him he could start reading on his own in bed before going to sleep and turn his light off afterwards. The first night he read until midnight! He said I did not specify how long he could read...
@paolini#Murtagh A very excited young fan receiving Murtagh just before going to school (sic!). It will be a long day... He is so looking forward to reading it and having it signed by the author in London soon - he will have to miss a school day for that π
@paolini@underlined My 12-year old is very excited about Murtagh. He started reading Eragon when first lockdown started in 2020 when he was just 8 and was stuck at home. He finished all volumes of the series in 2 months back then which was a godsend as I had to work and was glad books kept him busy.
