Was today’s catastrophe in Nepal truly “just nature”?

Dozens dead. Hundreds missing. Entire villages erased. Bridges gone. Hydropower projects smashed by a sudden wall of water racing down from the Nepal-Tibet frontier.
Reports point to an upstream avalanche or glacial surge as the trigger—releasing a force the rivers simply could not contain. Local rainfall does not appear to fully explain the scale of what unfolded.
And yet… was this inevitable?
Or was it the predictable result of decades of deliberate choices—choices made not in Kathmandu, but in donor capitals and NGO boardrooms far away?
Nepal sits at the roof of the world. Its rivers demand storage. Large multi-purpose dams are not vanity projects; they are tools of survival—holding flood peaks, releasing water safely, generating power, buffering extremes. But those dams were never built.
Why?
•Western NGOs and their funders spent years blocking major storage projects through environmental absolutism, indigenous-rights campaigns, and relentless lawfare.
•Flagship schemes like Arun III were driven into withdrawal. West Seti and others faced the same coordinated opposition.
•The result? A hydropower sector dominated by run-of-river plants that produce electricity in good times… and offer almost zero flood regulation when the Himalayas unleash sudden fury.
Sovereignty over Nepal’s own rivers was surrendered. Decisions about what the country was allowed to build were shaped by external vetoes rather than national needs.
And the same networks did not stop at infrastructure. They shaped the political class itself—flooding “civil society,” media, and governance programs with hundreds of millions. Parallel power structures emerged, more responsive to foreign grant conditions than to the people who live with the floods.
When disaster strikes, the public is told it is climate, nature, or bad luck.
The deeper structural choices that left the country defenseless receive far less scrutiny.
Who really left Nepal exposed?
Who decided that foreign ideological preferences mattered more than the practical tools of survival?
And how many more times will ordinary Nepalis pay the price?

Today’s Nepal flash flood wasn’t inevitable.

Why?

Because Nepal’s leadership has long answered to the same foreign NGOs that spent decades blocking the very projects that could have stopped this.

• Large storage dams and multi-purpose infrastructure? Systematically opposed.

• Arun III, West Seti and other reservoir schemes?
Killed by “environmental” campaigns and indigenous-rights lawfare funded from abroad.

• Result: mostly run-of-river plants that generate power in good weather but offer almost zero flood control when the Himalayas deliver an extreme event.

The same NGO networks that vetoed the dams also shaped the political class.
USAID, NED and their “civil society” partners poured money into governance programs, media, youth groups and parallel power structures. Ministers and activists rotate through donor pipelines.
Policy gets written for grant conditions, not national survival.
Sovereignty means the right to build what keeps your people alive.
Until Nepal rejects the foreign veto over its rivers, these disasters will keep repeating—and ordinary Nepalis will keep paying the price.

MASSIVE ERUPTION BLASTS ASH 50,000 FEET ABOVE VANUATU

Something powerful just unfolded over the South Pacific.

Ambae volcano unleashed a major eruption, blasting ash roughly 50,000 feet into the atmosphere. That’s nearly 10 miles high.

Satellite imagery detected the enormous plume along with a strong sulfur dioxide signal spreading from the volcano.

Ambae was already at Alert Level 3, with recent ash plumes reaching around 15,000 feet.

This one went more than three times higher.

The eruption prompted authorities in Japan to assess possible tsunami effects. So far, no tsunami impact has been confirmed.

According to reports, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake on the Tibetan side triggered a massive ice avalanche, which then led to the flash flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal. Around 1,000 people are missing, and many have been killed.
