@zak_podmore I would read this article Zak.

This is a great article! I love learning from people who are willing to try something different and share what they’re learning.

I started implementing regenerative/holistic farming and ranching about 15 years ago, and I’ll admit, I was pretty skeptical at first. However, the more I learned and saw, the more I became a believer. I’ve now seen the amazing results firsthand.

On one of my fields where I took a more regenerative, holistic approach, I saw significant improvements in soil health in just four years while using less fertilizer and less water. This year, we actually saw a 20% increase in yield, even during a drought.

We need to talk more about these practices and share what’s working. Finding ways to use less water is good for agriculture, good for our watersheds, and good for Utah. It’s also one of the biggest things we can do to improve water efficiency and help protect the Great Salt Lake.

The son of a man killed in the Sept. 11 attacks spoke out against using the tragedy to spread hateful, Islamophobic rhetoric during Friday’s ceremony marking 25 years since the attacks.

“You do my dad’s legacy, the legacy of all these victims, no honor by using this tragedy to spread hate,” he said during the remembrance ceremony in Lower Manhattan.

After losing his primary, Senate President Stuart Adams is threatening to sue four critics, including the state auditor, for statements Adams says were defamatory. “Correct the record,” Adams demands.

I had the same mistake in the very first dead pool article I wrote for The Salt Lake Tribune. My editor @granteb and I issued a correction. I can’t imagine we’ll see that from CNN or NYT. Then I wrote a book!

[Zak 🦦 Podmore @zak_podmore]

Both articles also inflate the importance of hydroelectricity from the Glen Canyon Dam (which has been declining for years) and ignore the more pressing issue: critical water management decisions are being driven by design flaws in the dam (which could be fixed!)

The gently sloping line at the bottom is our world 252 million years ago, when temperatures increased by 8C across 60,000 years killing 90% of all species.

It is a period known as The Great Dying.

That vertical red line is the world our children live in.

Some personal news. Next Wednesday will be my last day at The Salt Lake Tribune. It's been an honor and seeing the impact of the journalism has been a daily thrill. The work of The Tribune is critical for Utah and for the West and it was awesome to be a part of it.

A few years ago, I wanted Silicon Slopes to pay off every outstanding school lunch account in Utah.

I was told it’s not possible because some parents might take advantage. “So what?” I replied.

This heartbreaking story is about much more than that, but the part where he was eating food out of trash cans struck a chord.

No child in Utah should be denied lunch due to an outstanding or nonexistent account balance.

I’m not asking the government to fund it. Just let Utahns pay for it themselves.

I’m confident enough money could be raised in 48 hours to solve this problem forever.

Tomorrow, the 2024 Olympics will start.

140 athletes will represent Ukraine.

487 Ukrainian athletes will never again be able to compete - they died since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Over 4,000 more Ukrainian athletes are defending Ukraine today.

I've covered 20 years of paroxysms of public American violence. The search for meaning in the motives of the shooter is the worst part. It give us the impression that our violence problem is caused by whatever is most pressing in misfit's worldview and hands them a microphone.
