Yesterday at 8 PM, after a long day, I finally checked our farmers WhatsApp group for the first time in 2025. Ten people asked me the same question: "What are the golden rules of farming in 2025?" I joked, "If God gave us 10 commandments, farming needs 12 rules." Then, I got serious and shared my lists which can be applied to other businesses too 👇 1️⃣I started with this: Never aim for peak seasons. Peak seasons come with many challenges, and you might end up gambling instead of farming. Farming is about consistency and patience, not betting on high-risk opportunities….. 2️⃣Second, pick two main crops and stick to a rotational plan. Jumping between crops is bad for your soil and your finances. Consistency helps you become an expert in specific crops, leading to better results…. 3️⃣Third, always have crops at different growth stages. This ensures you have a constant supply throughout the year. You’ll avoid those painful periods of having nothing to harvest or sell….. 4️⃣Fourth, remember, there’s no such thing as an unprofitable crop. Every crop has its strengths and weaknesses. Your job is to master its challenges and find the right market….. 5️⃣Fifth, having money doesn’t guarantee success. Farming requires knowledge, dedication, and careful planning. A big budget without a strategy can lead to big losses….. 6️⃣Sixth, create a spray and fertilizer plan—and stick to it. Skipping or delaying these critical steps can ruin your harvest, no matter how well you planned everything else…. 7️⃣Seventh, be cautious with advice from agro-vets or salespeople. Many are focused on selling products rather than solving your farm’s specific problems. Always consult a trained agronomist…. 8️⃣Eighth, cut costs wisely. Lowering expenses without affecting the quality of your produce is a smart move. Small savings can add up and make a big difference in the long run….. 9️⃣Ninth, don’t hold onto perishable produce for too long. If it’s ready to sell, let it go. Waiting for higher prices often leads to wasted products and lost profits….. 🔟Tenth, never plant a new seed on a large scale without testing it first. A small trial can save you from costly mistakes and help you understand how the crop performs….. 1️⃣1️⃣Eleventh, be present during critical stages of crop development. Don’t leave everything in the hands of farmworkers—your farm’s success depends on your involvement….. 1️⃣2️⃣Twelfth, avoid hiring close family members to manage your farm.
