Here is a press release on NZ's current ICU bed capacity from @anzics. The numbers reflect the reality on the ground (we have just over 170 staffed adult ICU beds). These are numbers NZ experts in intensive care medicine agree on @AndrewLittleMP

@nursekelsey I hope to be like this one day! Newbie ICU nurse and my handover is aways punctuated by apologies for things I haven't had time to do or forgotten if a patient is busy π
@heli_med_james@TheResusRoom@ERC_resus Less of a question but tips/pearls of wisdom on making do with what equipment you do have prehospital? For example one of my colleagues cut the toe off a (clean) sock and warmed to use as a hat for a preemie - any similar gems or tips for making non-specialised equipment work?
Any recommendations for resources on communication with critically ill patients and their families for a newbie ICU nurse? I guess a skill that is learnt with time but something to start from would be helpful! #NurseTwitter#icunurse
All dressed up and nowhere to go! Hard not to be disappointed that 1st day of first job as an RN (induction) postponed due to #COVID19nz. Lunchbox already packed! However Dog is thrilled that both mum and dad home for the day.

Great infographic showing the impact of COVID-19 on ICU resources in the UK. Thoughts are with all the ICU staff in places less fortunate than NZ who are stretched beyond breaking point and still giving patients their all #nursetwitter#COVID19#icu#MedTwitter
#COVID-19 has required creating 2251 new ICU beds across the UK.
But the number of trained ICU staff hasn't risen to match.

@WildernessEMC I believe there is a feasibility trial running in some remote-er areas of NZ where EMT are carrying IM fentanyl (and naloxone). I guess would need to consider requirements for managing/storing controlled drugs as part of equation?
@Charl_Underwood Nurse, but still done my fair share! Whip through the ones you know first and mark the ones to come back to, rather than getting stuck on one you don't know and running out of time. Read and re read the question, what is being asked? If you don't know an answer, put something!
Perfect solution when it's 35+ degrees - give up on productivity and hit the pub mid-afternoon for donuts and beers at @moonunderwaternz ! Couldn't resist this combination from @breeglamourcake and @garageproject, turned out to be a match made in heaven! #its5oclocksomewhere
When life gives you lemons you make marmalade.... And lemon curd and cordial and freeze some! Whilst I'm looking forward to my new job, I'm loving having a break from work and study for a while ππ
Achieved two degrees this year but just as proud of this certificate that I was awarded at VoicesCo end of year show last night. Challenged myself this year by doing something new and outside of my comfort zone and it paid off, finding a new community and hobby I love π
