You’re told to prioritize the officer’s “safety,” while his masked buddies surround your car armed to the teeth.

You can't be armed, but they’re armed with military-grade weapons and authorized to use them to enforce compliance.

You can't protest or "interfere", but they can enter your homes, detain your children, and kill your neighbors.

You can't film them, but they can monitor your movements, scan your license plate, and track your location in real time.

You can be fined and imprisoned for one wrong move, but they’re shielded by qualified immunity, and legally allowed to deceive you during questioning.

At some point, the power dynamic reversed.
Public servants became untouchable authorities, and abuse of power was rebranded as “order.” In the process, we’ve normalized state-sanctioned extortion, brutality, and subservience to law enforcement.

If these profound double standards don’t alarm you, it’s not because they aren’t there. It’s because you’ve been trained not to notice. That’s how we got here.

I feel old saying this, but what the fuck is up with modern tech?

It’s like we let the idiots run this world. Code is shit. Negates all our gains in hardware over the last 30 years. Watch a video of opening MS Word on Windows 98 vs today and you would never guess that 98 came out over 20 years ago.

We’ve been devolving when it comes to software. Look at the horrible pile of shit Windows has become. It was never great, but Windows 11 is embarrassing. It’s not just MS. And they’re all collecting “telemetry”.

Cars. Smart Appliances. Games even. They’ve turned into shit spyware that we have the privilege of paying for (often on a subscription basis).

I don’t want any of it. I won’t buy a modern car that listens and watches me and broadcasts beacons or needs a subscription. I won’t buy a “smart” appliance that will charge me a subscription and spy. Nobody wants to outright sell a game or software, it’s a license to use now.

I’m done. Fuck this shit. I’ll buy used everything until I can’t fix it any more. As long as people buy this trash we will keep getting fed garbage.

Van Gogh died broke because nobody wanted his paintings. He sold maybe one during his entire life. The art world thought his style was too immature. His brother Theo, an art dealer, kept him alive by sending money constantly.

When Van Gogh passed in 1890, his brother, Theo died just six months later. That left Theo's wife Jo as a 28 year old widow with a baby and about 900 paintings nobody wanted, plus hundreds of letters.

Here's what actually mattered. Van Gogh had written hundred of letters letters to Theo and Jo explaining individual paintings and his life as an artist. He told them the stories behind each work, what he was trying to express, what each one meant to him.

After both brothers died, Jo remembered these letters and published them.

That's what made him famous. People could read Van Gogh's own words about each painting. The works stopped being random art and became stories he had experienced. The paintings got context directly from him explaining what he was doing. Jo gave the world Van Gogh's voice attached to his work.

By the time she died in 1925, he had gone from total unknown to art historical icon.
