If you think humans were happily plant-based before farming, I've got a lovely little experiment for you.
Head to your nearest woodland at dawn. No shop. No packed lunch. No phone to summon a pizza when morale collapses. Just you and the "abundant natural plant foods" our ancestors supposedly thrived on. Forage all day. Feed yourself. Off you go.
Here's what you won't find.
No bread. No rice. No oats. No pasta. No potatoes, and even if you found something like them you'd need a fire and a pot before they'd do you any good. No fields of anything, because fields are farming, and farming's the thing you've decided we hadn't got round to. No fruit worth the name either, bar a brief autumn window, and what's there is small, sour and armoured with pips. A few berries if the birds haven't had them. Some optimistic leaves.
What you will find is the mushroom that looks exactly like the nice mushroom and shuts your liver down by teatime. The berry that's gorgeous, glossy, and your last. Nettles. A bog. The dawning realisation that you can't tell the harmless white flower from hemlock, which is a distinction Socrates would urge you to take seriously.
You'll end the day cold, scratched, poisoned in at least one interesting way, and somehow hungrier than when you started, having burned more calories hunting the salad than the salad ever contained. That's not a diet. That's a wide selection of ways to die with a full mouth and a foraging app open.
Now here's what would actually have fed you. The rabbit. The deer. The fish in the stream. The eggs in the nest. The fat, the marrow, the organs. Dense, immediate, reliable, and not remotely interested in poisoning you for revenge.
The plants were garnish, when they weren't actively trying to kill you.
The meal has always had a heartbeat.
Go and forage for a day. You'll come home a carnivore, if you come home at all.

I hold Trump and Republicans to the standards that they claim to represent -- that they PROMISED to represent.
I will always call out their bullshit, their gaslighting and even their lies by omission.

If I were still in the Marine Corps, today would be the day I resigned my commission.
I dedicate a portion of my life to the United States and our way of life, not another country.
For 14 years I proudly wore the uniform. Today, the House voted to merge portions of our military with Israel, without even a debate on that part of the bill. They voted to legally bind us to a country whose war crimes are being streamed daily to the world while our government continues to ignore them, and even fund them. I could no longer wear my uniform with honor or pride in that action, so rather than wear it in shame, I would choose not to wear it.
I don't blame the people of the United States. Most are too busy trying to just live to fully understand what this all means. Many of those that think they do understand will comment that it isn't a big deal, but they are products of the exact propaganda that let this happen and most have never formally studied history, worn the uniform, or stood on the land in the middle east and interacted with people one-on-one in multiple countries and regions in the area. They are misinformed, and I don't blame them. That is by design.
Congress is different. It is their job to be informed. It is their job to represent us. It is their job to put America first. Instead, they've become beholden to foreign governments who fund their campaigns. They proudly wear the military uniform of other countries in congressional chambers. They fly the flag of other countries on their office door, and now, they dishonor us all.
I am despondent. Looking at the lessons of history, looking at the trends, looking at the actions of our government, looking at our position in the world, I see no peaceful way for this to be fixed, if it can be fixed at all.
I am sure that some will comment "If you don't like it, then leave." They think they are being patriots by supporting our government without question, but patriots, true patriots, hold their government accountable. These people are unwittingly the agents of those that would destroy or subjugate us because they are doing the enemy's work. What better way to defeat someone in a battle than by convincing them not to show up.
Lincoln's final words of the Gettysburg address seem more appropriate than ever at this point:
"It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
The fight isn't over. I'm despondent, but not quitting. I will continue to fight the good fight because America, and Americans, are worth it.
I truly believe in America first. If our Congress doesn't share that belief and is willing to sell us out, then that is where the first battle should be fought.
The House is scheduled to vote this week on a National Defense Authorization that would integrate our military tech & supply chains with Israel’s.
Today, the Rules Committee will decide whether my amendment to strip section 219 will get a vote.
