@JIRAIREMI_ the threat of losing a cultural identity doesnt justify the ostracization of people who don't fit perfectly into that identity. a lot of the same sentiment that drives the act of making fun of people who can't speak filipino well also make it harder for those same people to learn

yet instead we have instead a culture that punishes learners and pushes back bilingualism. its not something im proud of

then theres a stigma for the opposite too. if you speak exclusively tagalog or regional dialects and have a strong accent in that direction, there are people who will think you're poor and uneducated. a bilingual culture shouldn't have stigma for any who lean strongly either way

im a pure filipino but english was my first language growing up from watching cartoons on tv and i struggled learning tagalog later on in life so people used to make fun of me for not having a good filipino accent. that's how mean locals will get if u dont speak it fluently.
