๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐!ย Meet Hailian Li, our Lead Scientist at Clariant's High Throughput Center in Palo Alto, whose groundbreaking work helped shape Nobel Prize-winning science! When the 2025 #NobelPrize in Chemistry was awarded to Omar M. Yaghi for metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), it was a moment of personal pride for Hailian, who was once Yaghi's student and invented the revolutionary MOF-5. โ๏ธ๐งซ
Hailian joined Professor Yaghi's lab in 1994, where their modestly equipped workspace was powered by vision and passion. His invention of MOF-5 proved that stable, porous frameworks could be created from simple building blocks, resulting in materials with unprecedented properties. The diamond-like cubic crystals ๐ weren't just scientifically significant but aesthetically stunning โ โ๐๐ณ๐ต ๐ฃ๐บ ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ข๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ,๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ as he describes them.
Hailian's relationship with his mentor was defined by freedom and encouragement. He cherishes Yaghi's supportive words: โ๐๐ฐ ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ ๐บ๐ฐ๐ถ ๐ธ๐ข๐ฏ๐ตโ โ a philosophy that fostered innovation. This October, Hailian received a special invitation to attend the Nobel ceremony in Stockholm as Yaghi's guest! โ๏ธ๐ซ
Today, Hailian applies his expertise to #Clariantโs emission control catalysts. His advice to aspiring scientists? โ๐๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ ๐จ๐ช๐ท๐ฆ ๐ถ๐ฑโย โ a principle that guided him through countless experiments to achieve transformative discoveries.
We're incredibly proud and lucky to have a scientist whose work has literally helped change the world of chemistry! #GreaterChemistry #RealPeopleofClariant
@clariant I bet you didnโt know that our long time colleague in BU Catalysts, Dr. Hailian Li, was one of Professor Yaghiโs early students that spearheaded the original discovery of MOF-5 in the late 90s! Heโs still innovating at our Palo Alto High Throughput Center :)

@clariant@ETH Super exciting news! I hope this opens up the possibility of future collaborations/exchanges around our R&D efforts. ETH is a world-class institution. Iโve been envious of their solid state NMR facilities for years! Maybe now we can use them...;)
Clariant enters into a R&D partnership with the prestigious @ETH Zurich university in Switzerland. Together, we work to advance catalysis #innovation and sustainable chemistry to add value to people, industries, and the environment. #catalysts#sustainability
Hariolf Kottmann was elected as Chairman of #Clariant's Board of Directors at today's Extraordinary General Meeting in Basel. He also welcomed Ernesto Occhiello as Clariant's new CEO.
Our apprentices in the German catalysts team in Heufeld demonstrated their interpretation of the #BeautyofChemistry with support from the R&D team. Learn about Clariantโs catalysts: https://t.co/yUjCJ5S2N7
