Going to PEEC in person 2 years ago was the last normal thing I remember doing before covid hit. SO much has changed since then, but the calibre of research conducted by uni students in coastal BC & beyond has not. #PEEC2022 was a wondrously well-run hybrid-style conference 👩🔬
So I’m in a musical and thought it would be fun & cute to try some fake nails from Save-On. But I glued my fingers together. And to free myself I had to open a bottle of nail polish remover with my feet like a bonobo. Anyways I’m in Spamalot come see it? https://t.co/VxYZihBaot
Are you pondering grad school for community, landscape or ecosystem ecology? If so, check out this awesome opportunity - I worked alongside @ChelskiLittle on a manuscript this year, and really can’t recommend her enough!

Shoots in British Columbia — which has relatively few COVID-19 cases and the biggest production volume in the country — are currently gearing up to return as the province moves into Phase 3 of its restart plan. https://t.co/7O7XyIeOs8
I’ve been getting a lot of questions from my non-Black friends about how to be a better ally to Black people. I suggest unlearning and relearning through literature as just one good jumping off point, and have broken up my anti-racist reading list into sections:
Huge congrats to @AmandaVincent1, this prize couldn’t be more well-deserved! So thrilled she’s been recognized for trailblazing work with @projectseahorse. She played a pivotal role in shaping my beliefs about marine conservation (and change-making in general) during my undergrad
Amanda Vincent was the first biologist to study seahorses in the wild and has been honoured with the world's top conservation award. Read more: https://t.co/6xFiJHe7Sc

The theme for this #SundayFishSketch was a fish named after a bird. Here’s a pajama #cardinalfish (my 6th fave fish and approximately my 3000th fave fashion icon, after every nudibranch species and John @Fluevog ofc), with its namesake avian counterpart:
#ThrowbackThursday to this time last year when we were seeking out seeds and scat on a steep slope in Northern California 😂 I’m the one in overalls trying not to tumble down the hill... it was a lot more vertical than it looks from this angle. Really missing fieldwork rn!
Distinguished ichthyologist and coral specialist, Jack Randall, who discovered and named more species of fish than anyone in history, died April 26. He was 95.
We wrote about him in 2016:

My new photo goal is to photograph the moment a newt comes to the surface to gulp air - they always seem to blow a single bubble too. Problem is this happens in a split second and then they sink into the murk. These are my best results from my 1st attempt.
Was struggling to summon the motivation to start my quarantine workday until I learned that bats can be marine mammals! Cool video, cool fieldwork, very cool bats.
