During WWII, a German Luftwaffe pilot, Franz Stigler, spotted American pilot Charlie Brownโs crippled plane in the sky.
Tailing it, he noticed that gunner was dead, crew injured, and they posed no threat. Instead of destroying the plane, he led it to safety.
After an extensive search by Brown, the two pilots met each other 50 years later and developed a friendship that lasted until Stigler's death in March 2008.
Brown died only a few months later, in November of the same year.
