Today, we celebrate the centenary of Christopher Tolkien - born on this day in 1924! Without his unparalleled literary achievement, we would have only a fraction of his father’s writings. Cheers to Christopher, the first Tolkien scholar!

I’ve been covering movies in some form or another since 1997. In that time I’ve gotten to meet my heroes, see the process of putting together a movie of all sizes and all genres, and even witness cinema history as it happened. One very strong memory was visiting the set of LOTR.
So long to our friend, our king, Bernard Hill.
We will never forget you.
“For he was a gentle heart and a great king and kept his oaths; and he rose out of the shadows to a last fair morning.”

The 4 Hobbits pay their respects to Bernard Hill at Liverpool Comic Con
"He was intrepid, he gruff, he was irascible." - Sean Astin
Echoing Sean's words, Billy Boyd, said: “We were watching the movies and I said to Dom, I don’t think anyone spoke Tolkien’s words as great as Bernard did.”
Godspeed, Bernard Hill. Folks will be sharing memories of his various roles today, but for me, Théoden King stands alone - a standout performance in a film series full of standout performances.
May his family be comforted during this difficult time. ❤️
It’s with great sadness that I note the death of Bernard Hill. We worked together in John Paul George Ringo and Bert, Willy Russell marvellous show 1974-1975. A really marvellous actor. It was a privilege to have crossed paths with him. RIP Benny x

a sweet singing running in his mind: a song that seemed to come like a pale light behind a grey rain-curtain, and growing stronger to turn the veil all to glass and silver, until at last it was all rolled back, and a far green country opened before him under a swift sunrise
We are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of Bernard Cribbins. Known best to Doctor Who fans as the Doctor's friend and Donna's grandad Wilfred Mott, Bernard leaves behind a long legacy in film and TV. ❤️ https://t.co/wDIUnQkJOZ
It's a good idea. In Japan. Sadly, due to the draconian anti-trade union legislation in the UK meaning only affected workers can be balloted, any attempt to replicate this in the guards dispute would involve other grades, be deemed secondary action and, therefore, illegal. Sorry.
