The Islands Architecture is cool: server-render HTML with small "islands" that get interactive independently.

I wrote a blog post summarizing the work I've been doing with my amazing teammates for the last two years, creating the infrastructure for server-side rendered Javascript at Etsy. I'm really proud of what we built!

Also @esaevian and @Ch0xi (and our other not-on-twitter teammates) contributed so much and made this project so much stronger, I don't think it would have happened without them. ♥️
I tech led this work, and it was by far the biggest and most ambitious engineering project of my career so far. I was super out of my comfort zone at first and there were some rough patches, but taking this from wild idea to real thing was an amazing experience. I learned a ton.
@ag_dubs@nomadtechie @ksylor @cmeik Random, but I think I met @cmeik briefly ages and ages ago at my very first Javascript meetup in Providence, RI when I was baby web engineer, he was the speaker maybe? What a funny full circle moment. (Chris, I doubt you remember this, it was not otherwise memorable. 😂)
@ksylor @nomadtechie@TatianaTMac ❤️ I was definitely riffing on other folks’ thoughts! But I’ll never forget going to a talk about writing async Python (sounded so intimidating to me!) that began with “if you write JS you already know how to do this”. I had just been assuming what I knew how to do was easy.
@thomasABoyt I do! Spam filtering is pretty solid, if anything it tends to have false positives. But also I'm lazy about correcting it when it is wrong.
