A group of 4 girls from Oxford University studying Earth Science. We want to go to Greenland for a mapping project....want to come on our adventure with us?
The first 2 days in the village were spent doing reconnaissance of each mapping area. We identified the main rock types in each area, and were also able to get a feel for the terrain. This allowed us to make a better plan for mapping strategy over the coming weeks.
Luckily we had a luggage transfer for all of our many bags! It was raining so we were a bit soggy and wet, but we were just happy to be there and able to set up camp, ready to start mapping the next day.
It took 4 days for us to get from the UK to Igaliku. After a late flight to Reykjavik, we spent a day exploring the city and eating yummy ice cream and fish. We then took a little plane to Narsarsuaq, which has the only airport in Southern Greenland.
Here we got excited about seeing our first icebergs in the fjord, and had a roast dinner (classic brits!) at the hotel. The final leg of our journey saw us take a little boat across the fjord to the settlement of Itilleq, and then hike for about an hour to Igaliku.
Did we survive our first storm? Did Jo do something impulsive to her hair? What animal charged at Camille and Tamsin? Find out in our latest blog...Rocks, Rain and Rest Days https://t.co/v1fyKQ2D78
After a week without wifi we are back to tell you that we are alive! We have received a warm welcome from the village of Igaliku (pictured below), and are settling in to tent life with beautiful views and great rocks! Please enjoy this selfie of us with an ice fjord we found!
New blog -Exams, Freedom, Packing, Leaving - a rollercoaster of a term. check out what we have done over the last few months. #exams#greenland#letsgo#theadventurebegins https://t.co/c2FZyxZp2m

We have had a great day in Reykjavik, enjoying the city and sampling great ice cream and fish! All set to leave for Greenland tomorrow... #iceland#Reykjavik#explore#greenland
We’re at Harriers Banbury Academy this morning, studying rocks with Year 3s and the @greenlandmap team! Great Q&A, good hands-on observations of rocks and thin sections and fab displays in the classrooms! #geology#science#KS2#outreach
