Surprise 🤗 Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my 8th studio album, folklore; an entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into. Pre-order at https://t.co/zSHpnhUlLb
After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump
I stand in solidarity with @taylorswift13. Artists should be allowed the right to perform their songs as they wish. As a songwriter, songs are our children, our accomplishments, our thoughts, and our voice.
I was scrolling through Tumblr on saw this posted by manxitawho found it on Reddit written by jdeeth. It’s a perfect explanation of this whole situation. #IStandWithTaylor#ARIAsTaylorSwift
So before you open your mouth to be a basic bitch and antagonize Taylor Swift for standing up to something that has ruined the careers of countless others including those more marginalized than she is, remember that it costs YOU nothing to mind your business and shut the fuck up.
I’ve hated this when Tinashe had issues with her label. When Jojo had issues with hers. When Azealia had issues with hers. This issue is bigger than Taylor and most these execs are men who exercise their pettiness and stroke their egos by exerting control over a woman’s life work
Now if this happens to a wealthy white woman who grew up pretty well off, imagine the kinds of situations upcoming artists who just want to get their music out there and are promised all these great things by labels find themselves in? Queer artists? Women of color?
That’s SEVEN more albums to get rights to seven albums. She’d never be free from them. He then decided to sell the company and therefore the rights to someone she hates. And these two men leverage their power against her because they’re awful and she’ll re-record all her music
Then when she finished her contract, they didn’t offer her a cash number to buy her rights back from this contract she agreed to when she was 14 (Scott knows they’re priceless) but they instead offered to give her ownership of one old album for each new one she recorded for them.
As the singing, songwriting and creative force behind all her own songs that saved Big Machine money in a way is not negligible! She mad them BILLIONS. Big Machine is the house that Taylor Swift built.
This label at the time had pretty much no major current names on their roster artist wise. She then proceeded to write and sing and create all her own songs and takeover the world. She made them seven albums with them having to pay a ton of songwriters and producers etc
Let’s be clear, since some of y’all love to be antagonistic towards Taylor Swift in all scenarios just because you’re pricks who don’t like her. But at 14, her dad negotiated a contract for her with a record label to record 7 albums and give them the rights. She agreed. At 14.
