@jmerrill14 Gender: Again, representation. Read stories of strong women. Normalize gender diversity. Share and create situations in which women and girls can succeed. Mix genders as much as possible. Have a strengths-based classroom. #tncohort4

@jmerrill14 Ethnicity: Understand that everyone has biases in their thinking and proactively try to address them. Representation in the classroom through books and media. Do constant research! Reach out and be open to improvement. #tncohort4

@jmerrill14 Culture: It's all about an open mind and open heart. Recognize that culture influences our own understanding also, and try to find the beauty and value in all cultures. Exposure matters! Immerse yourself in different cultures - explore and engage! #tncohort4

@jmerrill14 Our school has organized a "Weekly Wednesday" training for teachers throughout the year. It's a chance for teachers to present professional development topics to each other throughout the year. Great reminders for updates to teaching practice!

@wondercave To frame this desire as "wanting illegal immigration" I believe is dishonest on the part of politicians. Legal immigration is obviously the goal, and we should allow people around the world to follow their dreams of coming here more easily, just like our great grandparents could.

@wondercave From my perspective, I don't see many people advocating for illegal immigration, no borders, etc. However, I think we should facilitate the process of immigration for people who want to come to the US or are already here contributing.

@wondercave In many cases, immigrants come to the US seeking something better, just like previous generations of our family, not because they want to game the system, but because they want better for their families. It would be nice if our laws allowed for easier immigration. But it does not

@wondercave If you were in the shoes of a Guatemalan asylum seeker, would you choose to enter your name in the immigration lottery and spend the next 5 years keeping your family in your dangerous slum, or would you take your chances coming to the best country in the world to try to find work

@wondercave From other places, the waiting list to even try to come here is several years long, whereas to legally immigrate was MUCH easier before. So this is the dilemma of many people who want to immigrate here. Many are going from places where they cannot afford to wait. Dangerous places

@wondercave For example, one of my friends is in the process of trying to get a Green Card. In order to do so, she must live in the US for a minimum of 3 years - without working! She is legally not allowed to work. This is a sort of catch-22 in the immigration process.

@wondercave Today, it is very difficult to move to many places abroad, and for good reason. The barriers to immigration have increases, but for many around the world the desire to live abroad for better opportunity has not decreased. To immigrate to the US is very hard, compared to before.
