Six armed men smashed their way into Amanda and Tim Platt’s farmhouse outside Pietermaritzburg in the early hours of 17 August 2023. They tore the lower half of the back door apart with bolt cutters and crowbars while more of them worked the bedroom window. Amanda begged them to leave. They looked her in the eyes and shouted “Kill the Boer.” Then they tried to drag her through the wrecked door.

She grabbed a decorative axe. They ripped it out of her hands. One of them smashed her over the head with a crowbar or bolt cutter until she hit the floor, concussed, praying she wouldn’t black out. They stabbed her in the groin with a wooden spear. Multiple head wounds. Arm smashed. Copper bangle bent out of shape from the force they used trying to haul her over the broken door while they kept chanting.

She fought them off long enough to bolt to a neighbor, already having called police and every farm around her. Then she went back inside because her husband was still in the house. By the time she returned the attackers had fled. Both of them lived. Six suspects were later arrested because the local farm watch actually showed up.

Three years later the trauma is still there. The politicians who treat “Kill the Boer” as heritage still get away with it. The same government that files this as “ordinary crime” still pretends the chant has nothing to do with what happens when the door comes off its hinges at 2 am.

Amanda is in Washington this week telling the story herself. The chant they used on her is the same one they sing on stage. That is not a metaphor. That is the soundtrack they chose while they were beating a White woman with a crowbar and driving a spear into her.

I’m always at a loss how people continue to think Carney will somehow transform the lives of everyday Canadians and lift them to prosperity when all the key individuals who influenced Trudeau and his decisions over the last 10 years have moved into even more influential positions in Carney’s Government.
