On Tuesday, after the loss was apparent, Kelly told his supporters, “From the outset of this campaign, I only wanted God to be glorified. If that means he’s glorified by my losing, so be it.”
He meant it, but I know that was not an easy thing to say. He’s a guy who hates losing. And he never really does. Ever. I never seen him lose and he does everything with excellence. Hyper successful in business and politics. Knows his Bible inside and out. Teaches Sunday school. Runs marathons, plural. Profoundly generous in ways nobody sees. Suffers with a smile. Roots for you when he probably shouldn’t. Facing death yet will try to talk you out of giving him a kidney.
As a young man, you don’t realize the influence your wife’s father will eventually have in your life and on your character. Your understanding of the measure of a husband, a father, a worker—a man—will in due time come to be shaped by the man who raised your wife.
I’m grateful for Kelly's influence in my life, I'm grateful for his friendship, and this week, I'm especially grateful for he and Robin's lasting influence on our state through decades of selfless, sacrificial public service.
Robin and I believe strongly that the Lord has a plan for our lives, and this moment is no different. We trust fully in His guidance and are grateful for the opportunities He has given us to serve.
While last night’s results were not what we hoped for, I am grateful for the record we built and the campaign we ran.
I want to thank Governor Greg Abbott for asking me to serve as Acting Texas Comptroller and for endorsing our campaign. I’m also grateful for the many business, law enforcement, and agricultural organizations that stood with us, as well as the hundreds of thousands of grassroots voters and supporters who believed in our mission.
It has been an honor to serve as your Acting Comptroller. I remain committed to keeping Texas the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
Discovered that my first grader is telling his friends I’m the TCU football coach.
When I went to read to his class this week, one of his classmates shouted, “It’s the TCU coach!”
I’ve never before been greeted with so much awe.
First of all, wow, what a feeling.
Second, how can I gently let these kids down?
Pretty funny.
He sees me go to football games.
He watches me take football helmets to people.
He hears me talk about NIL and college athletics policy.
We see the Amon G. Carter stadium from the highway and he says, “there’s Dad’s office!” and I don’t correct him on the technicality.
So yeah, makes a lot of sense that he thinks I’m a coach.
I don’t yet have the heart to burst his bubble.
One day I'll sit him down and explain that his old man is just a regular ol' politics nerd.
And who knows, maybe he’s prophetic?
Never say never.
Nearly six months in @TCU.
- My 4yo daughter is thrilled I'm wearing more purple
- Have not been run over by a scooter on campus
- Doing something bigger than myself with people smarter than I (me?)
- Endless federal *and* state *and* local policy nerd content
- Reminded daily of my parents' generous investment in my own college education (s/o @biolau)
- Work = texting around the latest hypnotoad video

25 years. A million memories. One extraordinary woman.
A quarter-century in, and I’m still in awe you said, “I do.”
You’re the heart of every chapter we’ve written—and the best pages are still ahead!

October is now Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month in Texas.
Earlier this year, I passed a bill making fentanyl endangerment a felony because if you expose a child or anyone else to this deadly drug, you should face serious consequences.
This is insane…
As Trump arrived to the UN, the escalator stopped working the moment he stepped on it.
Then the teleprompter stopped working the moment he got up to the podium to speak.
Charlie’s hair and God’s hands.
“Some of you they will put to death. But not a hair of your head will perish” (Luke 21:16–18).
“Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands” (Isaiah 49:16).
I would pay good money for a concierge service for maintenance and renewal of all my family’s government documents.
In a family of six, this is my part-time job.
Driver licenses, passports, SSN, car registrations, tax returns, birth certificates, medical records, property taxes, etc etc.
A single repository for everything.
Documents that need renewing just appear.
Baseball sign up? One touch and the birth certificate is submitted.
Someone do this.
