Woohoo! My refurb NES is working after doing a connector swap. I am turning 50 this year and wanted to reminisce with games I used to play 40 years ago…
@thezolon It’s really sad that these models are getting so expensive. I imagine Microsoft will pivot at some point, but for now the value is definitely not there. I am still using Codex and it’s giving me a lot for the $’s.
Ouch, the new GitHub CoPilot plan (usage based, AI credits) is probably going to last maybe a week? I don't see this going well for Microsoft. I also just saw the MiniMax 3 model announced which looks really good (through OpenRouter, Ollama, and others) that don't trian.
I have been trying to get into some retro gaming with an NES. The one I bought works great with the game it came with, but it hasn’t worked with any other cartridges I have tried (7). It also has a very firm grip on cartridges with thicker pcb’s.
From what I have gathered, the replacement 72 pin connectors are hot garbage and it’s best to use cleaned up OEM connector. So I’ll be swapping that out soon. Here is what the current 3rd party connector looks like.
@john__olson For most of my home projects, I think that might be fine as well. How are you calling DeepSeek v4 pro? Did you sign up directly? The Codex $20/mo plan has met most of my needs so far (get close to hitting limits though)- I'd like to find some cheaper/ DIY options.
Using Roo Code (VS Code Extension, works with Ollama) to run Qwen 3 Coder 30B from my PC that has a 4080 16gb card. Getting good results, but inference is really slow compared to using a cloud model. Like.. a few minutes to generate a file, vs 10-20 seconds. :)
We went and saw Mandalorian and Grogu last night. It was well worth the price of admission! It was very campy and light-hearted for a Star Wars film. Much better than the last 3 films by far.
For under $200 this Char-Broil 28 inch griddle is really good. I’ve been cooking on it for a few months now… it’s really underrated especially compared to a Blackstone!
I've been pretty happy with the overall quality of Codex, but I do think Claude models (Opus, Sonnet) works a bit better overall, especially for "one shot" prompting. On the plus side, I still have plenty of capacity left with Codex, even using the "High" model.
