Sometimes we have this idea in our head that acts of good somehow outweigh the evil we do, but the Law requires that we keep it ALL consistently. We have softened things for our benefit, because we’re the criminals. We have a tendency to take a view that favors us and doesn’t understand God’s holiness properly.
It isn’t giving our lives for someone else that earns us salvation. Rather, it is Jesus giving his life for us.
If you’re dismissing certain behaviors that are prohibited in the Old Testament (such as sexual sins) because it’s Old Testament, then how are you saying other of those behaviors (such as murder) are still wrong? I want to know the rationale. In fact, we have a rationale for that. You have to look at the context.
Marriage has been evacuated of anything that is normative, and now that’s the way people think about it. There’s a pushback against any normative standard at all—that men are men, and women are women, and sex is binary. The definitions have been twisted from an objective reference point to a completely subjective reference point—you do you.
What should we as Christians do? Just like Jesus, we go back to the structure that God set up in the beginning—male and female, he created them. Are you willing to conform to God’s design the way he made it... the way he said it was good?
Here’s the conclusion of my series of “rapid-fire” responses to frequent challenges to Christianity: Intelligent design is just religion disguised as science, God is not a good father, evil proves God doesn’t exist, relativism doesn’t mean “anything goes,” and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

The legislating authority is the one who decides what is the appropriate punishment to establish justice. God is the one ultimately offended—he is the one whose law is broken—and if God deems a substitute like Jesus to be adequate payment for our sins, then justice has been satisfied.
What’s the alternative? Either 1) We pay—there’s no forgiveness or mercy or 2) there’s no justice—everyone gets a free pass.
