HARD TRUTH: If you're not showing up - posting, engaging or networking, your clients are busy choosing someone else.
Not because they're better but because that person is there.
Here's what perfectionism is actually doing.
It's not making your content better. It's not protecting your reputation. It's not buying you time until you're ready.
It's keeping you invisible while someone less qualified than you posts the thing you already know, gets the attention you've already earned, and signs the client you were a better fit for.
Perfectionism feels like high standards. From the outside it looks like hiding.
And the brutal truth is the algorithm doesn't reward polish. It rewards presence. The person who posts the imperfect thing consistently will always beat the person who perfects the post they never send.
You don't have a quality problem. You have a safety problem. And those need very different solutions.
Buying another marketing course won't fix your visibility problem.
You already know what to say. You already know how to help people.
Your issue isn’t lack of strategy - it's your subconscious mind being a ruddy nuisance!
Stop trying to use conscious logic to fix a subconscious survival response - it just won't work!
Night! Hope you enjoyed all the talk about how unbearably 🥵 hot the UK weather's been today? Don't worry, you'll shortly get the chance to talk about how horribly wet it is too! 🥶
There's a reason you can feel completely confident with clients and fall apart in a room full of your peers.
When you’re with your clients - your brain has a clear role. Expert. Authority. The one with the answers. That role acts as a kind of permission structure.
But when you’re amongst your peers that permission disappears and your amygdala, which is always scanning for social threat, starts ringing the alarm.
Am I good enough to be here? They all seem so successful. Will they discover I'm not as good as they think I am?
None of that is weakness. That's your social threat detection system doing exactly what it evolved to do.
Does this ever happen to you?
Fear of selling is a crazy ride!
You're genuinely good at what you do. Your clients get results. You've got kind words and rather nice testimonials.
But when it comes to actually selling?
You go quiet. You undercharge. You over-explain. You wait to be asked instead of making the offer and then wonder why the business isn't growing the way you know it could.
If that sounds like you, this might be the account you've been looking for. 🫶
One of the hardest parts about being visible online is the self-doubt.
After so many times talking yourself out of posting, running workshops, outreach and networking - you start to wonder if you've got anything worth saying.
What do you think?
I'm reminded of the parable of two wolves - a way to explain the internal battle that goes on inside all of us...
A Cherokee elder teaches his grandson there are two wolves inside all of us - one is darkness (anger, fear, worry). The other is light (joy, peace, happiness and hope).
When asked which wolf wins, the elder says...
Whichever one you feed.
