Paysse, who plays for Texas A&M @AggieMensGolf, was the No. 4 seed after shooting 5-under-par 135 in medal play. Three other top-nine seeds lost round of 32 matches, including No. 1 seed Travis Vick of Houston. Defending champion and No. 5 seed Cooper Dossey of Austin advanced.

GOLF: Temple resident and @thebeltontigers graduate William Paysse lost 1-up to Gordon Sargent of Mountain Brook, Ala., on Thursday in round of 32 match play in the 120th North & South Amateur Championship on @PinehurstResort’s No. 2 course in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Paysse and Sargent each won two holes on the front nine, then Paysse won Nos. 10 and 11 for a 2-up lead that stood through 13 holes. Sargent won Nos. 14 and 15 to tie it and won No. 17 for his first lead. Paysse needed to win No. 18 to extend the match, but Sargent equaled his 4.

#Temple resident and #Belton grad William Paysse (5-under-par 135 total) finished medal play as the No. 4 seed. On Thursday he will face No. 29 seed Gordon Sargent (140) of Mountain Brook, Alabama in a round of 32 match at 7:32 a.m. EDT on @PinehurstResort’s famed No. 2 course.
