Secrets put up barriers between us and the things we cherish and want more of. They isolate us and make us fearful of being found out. Secrets affect the way we view ourselves. Secrets are literally making us sick.
We all know lying is bad. We learn this very early on. It’s one of the very first rules that we get from our parents and teachers: always tell the truth. Don’t lie. And yet, many of us adults tell lies all the time.
How do we break the cycle of lying and keeping secrets?
If certain things come easier to you than to others, if you enjoy doing something so that time seems to vanish when you sit down to do it – that's usually a gift. And if you have a gift, no matter how big or how small, you have a responsibility to use it.
One of the first questions I ask when I begin working with a new client is "what are your gifts?" A long – very long – silence usually follows. When the client finally speaks, they say the same thing: "I don't know."
