Canada just made a strong move for wildlife. The country has officially banned the use of brutal poison that was used to kill gray wolf and American black bear across the nation.

This poison did not just kill. It caused slow and painful deaths. Animals would suffer for hours. Many did not die right away. Some were not even the intended targets. Other wildlife, pets, and even birds could be poisoned by mistake. It was a cruel method with no control.

Now that changes.

This ban is about basic decency. Wolves and bears are not pests. They are part of the ecosystem. They help keep nature balanced. Removing them in such a harsh way only creates more problems.

For years, people have spoken out against this. Wildlife advocates pushed for change. And now, that pressure has paid off.

This decision sends a clear message. There are better ways to coexist with wildlife. Killing should never mean torture.

It is a step forward. Not perfect, but progress.

And it shows that when enough people care, change can happen.

Neat footage of a black wolf, a fairly rare observation in our area where 98-99% of wolves are gray.

We actually collared this wolf (now dubbed Wolf G11E) later in the summer, the first black wolf we ever collared on our project. As we knew when we collared him, G11E was not part of a pack but rather a lone wolf wandering around, which is pretty common for  1-2 year old males like G11E.
