Ok... Repeat after me:
Technology is not a magic bullet
It is a tool
More technology doesn't solve education, healthcare, or anything else
The right tech can help
Sitting in an ivory tower built on privilege doesn't give you perspective; quite the opposite

Put my 11 and 13 year olds in online schooling.
Put them both in high school #French.🇫🇷
Texted their assigned tutors and told them both kids are “fluent in French.”
13 year old completed 23% of her first semester in one day. 11 year old 19%.
Flagged as cheating.
Spoke to tutors. “Their answers were too complex,” therefore flagged by the system.
Went on to explain automatically audited.
From here on in my kids have to answer questions simply:
“My cat is black,” not “my cat is a Bengal, and has brown and black spots like a tiger.”🐯
It’s audited by AI. We are now using AI to see if our kids are using #AI to cheat.
The anxiety it caused the kids when their A grades automatically showed as F’s!
Ingenuity. Free thought. Creatively. All in danger if you have to answer questions based on whether a computer will flag you as a cheat or not.
I will never, ever forget John Tory's self-serving, shortsighted 2017 refusal to support a stormwater charge that could have been directed to flood prevention. Toronto council shelving it again THIS YEAR is...*waterline raises above my mouth, blessedly drowning out the ranting*
