The rise of social media as the primary mode of social interaction has caused us to substantially overvalue opinions as a gauge of character. We are now defined more by what we say than what we actually do, and words, unlike deeds, are cheap and easy to counterfeit.
This seems to be a misunderstanding by @apple of how this feature works and what it's for.
It's a critical part of the future of the internet. It has the capacity to bring people around the world into the economy without the traditional gatekeepers. Please reconsider @tim_cook.
Damus will be removed from the app store in 14 days, apple says zaps are not allowed on their platform because they *could* be used by content creators to sell digital content. This is right before we’re about to give our talk at the oslo freedom forum on how decentralized social networks with lightning integration are bringing financial freedom to the masses... pretty sus… 😕
This would be a watershed moment: If people can’t transact freely p2p on their platform, this has huge implications for the entire ecosystem of apps with lightning integration and v4v.
There are only three truly censorship resistant technologies at scale today: tor, bitcoin, and nostr.
All are currently niche…showing most of the world doesn’t actually care about censorship.
Granted, these technologies aren’t yet accessible or easy to use. But…they will be!

#2 In 2011, just 35% of white liberals thought racism in the United States was “a big problem,” according to national polling.
By 2015, this figure had ballooned to 61% and further still to 77% in 2017.
On social media, fools feel clever by mocking bigger fools, and scoundrels feel virtuous by condemning bigger scoundrels. We feel good simply by portraying others as worse. In an age of anxiety & inaction, many seek self-esteem not in their own abilities, but in other's failures.
@TheSurvivalPodc A stereotype of our grandparents was complaining how expensive things were, like 25 cents for a candy bar. They remembered when it was a nickle. I find myself doing this now.
