Fair point on the transitional rules. My point is that compliance with those rules is the legal minimum. Administrative efficiency also means giving timely guidance and prompt responses to taxpayers. Those are two different issues.

I agree that taxpayers deserve timely guidance. The new law contains transitional rules in the 4th Schedule, and NRS is expected to apply those rules, even if the old law still governs certain tax years. That is compliance, not uncertainty or delay.

Exactly, they administer and enforce the law. That is precisely why taxpayers expect them to have prompt, well-defined positions on legislative changes rather than prolonged uncertainty.

NRS doesn’t make laws, it administers and enforces them. If implementation seems slow, it’s because the applicable law depends on the tax year under review. Capital Allowance in current audits is still governed by the old law until the relevant years transition to the new Act.

I genuinely feel for Gen Z (I know the economy is hitting everyone, but they didn’t even enjoy those little good old days). When I was earning N350,000 per month it was $1,750 (at an equivalent Gen Z age). When my dear friend told us of her wedding in Abudhabi, UAE. It was an easy decision to make because the price was fair. I spent less than 200K on flight, 5 star hotel (we shared a room), food AND shopping. Bought the dress I wore on Asos for £16 and it popped. We genuinely enjoyed living in Lagos and experiencing other places as holiday.

Now it’s hard to get that same value for money here in Nigeria. There’s a spontaneity that comes with being young that this economy is stifling young people of. There are certain things you do in your 20s that will not have the same effect doing it in your 50s. Stop robbing people of it. Dear Government. Fix this country that we all love.
