Periodic reminder for those who work in news: It's been a hell of a heavy time. Take time to walk away from the feeds. Go outside and feel the sun on your face. Be kind to yourself and to others. Don't tune out or burn out. We need you.
And @griffithgreene is the Service Journalism Editor at @washingtonpost. Her areas of expertise include collaborating across teams, creating new positions, and developing relationships and finding allies. 🤝

A few years ago, I was honored to introduce him when he was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the National Magazine Awards.
I’ve never agonized so much over a draft, rewriting it til the minute I was on stage. I’m still rewriting it. I think I will always be.
It’s taken me a few days to post about this. I’m devastated about the loss of @steve_trumper, who was formative for how I understand journalism, and a mentor to me and to so many others. 🧵
We are deeply saddened to hear about the death of Stephen Trumper. Stephen was a mentor and friend to many at The Walrus, and will be greatly missed. His last piece for the magazine was a heartbreaking memoir about his wife following her diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s.
Steve was a peculiar sort in that he was both cheery and savage in the best way an editor can be.
He would hit your draft in a way that left you feeling elated. It’s hard to describe but it’s a magic power that few editors possess, because it never came from a place of ego.
Just to clarify my somewhat sloppy tweet: I mean how this seems to have been handled by McLaren and the publisher before and after the release of the memoir.
I have known Zoe for 30 years, and her piece here is a difficult and painful read. And, having watched the conversation about this unfold for the past few days, it's also terribly sad how this seems to have been handled, both before and after publication.
I was sexually assaulted when I was 16.
this summer, @PenguinRandomCA published a memoir by one of my assailants claiming my rape was consensual.
now I'm ready to share my story:

As news consumption evolves for younger generations and new platforms, this point by @griffithgreene -- understanding what info people need AND in what form -- is where publishers and news SEOs will win or lose the battle for audiences. https://t.co/8WLj2UppqU
This was the most fun conversation. Thank you @jessiewillms and @shelbyblackley for having me! And if you don’t already get this newsletter, it is incredible ❤️
Extremely cool job alert: The Washington Post is hiring a non-fiction book critic.
Come work with me and the rest of the amazing @BookWorld team! https://t.co/mjliPmUlzi
Neema was one of the first people I met at the Post, years before I came to work here. She was incredibly kind and generous, on top of doing such good and important work. Such a profound loss for this world.

@beetrix Try things you’re curious about, even if they don’t seem like your kinda thing: worst case, you confirm something isn’t for you; best case, you’ll keep pushing how you define yourself and your life. And it’s easier when you’ve left the self-consciousness of youth behind you.
