After six long years, 50+ nights in hotels, 10,000+ miles on the road, and lots of lots of coffee, I defended my dissertation today and became Dr. Gabrielle Lyle. I’ve been so lucky to have such a stellar committee. @CKBlanton @soniahistoria @fhinojosa956
Save the Date: Fallon-Marshall Lecture on April 10, 2024, 1:30 PM @ MSC 2400 by HIST prof. Dr. Carlos Blanton titled The Texas State of Mind: Navigating Myth and Politics to Interpret Texas History. @glasscockcenter

@paularcurtis I’m sorry for your loss 💔 I loss my sweet boy Potter at 19 years old in 2021. I’d had him since I was 6 years old and and he was a kitten.
Fellow female academics, when you got married did you change your last name? Did you hyphenate or maybe go by your maiden name professionally but married name in your personal life. I’m leaning towards hyphenating or two middle names, but I’m unsure of the logistics.
I made my podcast debut today! It became more complex of an issue to talk about since I originally was asked, but I think we had a great conversation on the matter. Thank you to @peppard_anna for reaching out to me and giving me this opportunity as a younger scholar.
We're back! Scholar of comics & Jewish diasporas Gabrielle Lyle talks Jewish histories of superheroes & what they gain or lose when they become nationalist symbols in #Excalibur #121, “Friends Like These,” co-starring Israeli superhero Sabra. #XMen

@sarahbelle721 Not necessarily an icebreaker, but I pass out notecards and ask them a little about themselves and what they want to learn more about in the course. I currently only teach large survey courses, so this gives me a way to know a little about my students even a huge class.
@lntorres2022 There is one. I don’t want to say which building I’m in, but it has a reputation as being a difficult one for lecturing even with the mic.
Advice on how to get better at projecting yourself during lectures? I’m a pretty quiet individual to begin with and I’m going up against a loud HVAC system in the building.
@DrTylerPeterso1 Thank you! I will check them out! There’s one I found that I would like to use called Olympic Pride, American Prejudice, but A&M doesn’t have access to it, and I’m not sure how much I can request the library but since I already have a request in for M*A*S*H 😅
Making final plans for my U.S history since 1877 class this fall. Any suggestions for an easily accessible documentary on black history? Can be any decade, but it might be neat to have one focusing on the early 20th century. #twitterstorians
