@Jason9082645533 It depends on context/audience. Lil Nas' Satan Shoes? He bounced back quickly, as the 'bad publicity' was also connected to homophobia and racism (i.e Tony Hawk doing same thing but no flack). He was able to recover from it easily & used to promote album.

@Merrick_JohnII -forever. Gen Z's especially critical and can tell when ads used for 'diversity' comes from a place of willing ignorance (Pepsi ad) & subconscious racism (H&M monkey hoodie). It's a viable strategy, but we need to push for diversity where these decisions are made. #UWJ201 #301
@Merrick_JohnII If a company uses race in their advertising (i.e models of different races) for representation purposes--awesome! Even if their bottom line is profit, which it almost always is, we still need to have more media representation than just white models as we have reverted to for-
As I finish up my essay and after reading my peers', I wonder how many more journalism applications we use in every day life unknowingly. What was your guys' topics about?
#UWj201 #301
@kaylachilly@GavinLuebke28 I agree ! It’s so natural to tune out ads at this point, so it has to be something extremely out there and refreshing in terms of visuals to actually get me involved #UWJ201 #301
@EmilyNiman First thought was Lil Nas’ Satan shoes and Nike going to sue — then Lil Nas used him “going to jail” and similar headlines to promote another single #301
With more and more audiences becoming skeptical of advertisements and other commercials directed towards them, could 'natural' public relations have more power over these audiences going forward? (I understand this is also situational, just food for thought!)

Rojas' ending note on how expression (like sharing on social media) actually reducing issue extremism was extremely compelling, as it allows one to think about how we interact and share issues online with the people around us #UWJ201 #301
...and how this was barely covered by any major news outlets. This can be oppressive within itself if news organizations only cover the hot button issues, but also opens up opportunities to have specific-news stations (like @NextShark , which provides Asian-centered news stories)
The 'novelty' of the news, wherein only 'important'/sensationalized issues are shared, may be good for sharing crucial information in a topic; however, the news may decide to not share a certain issue (like when thousands of indigenous children's graves being found)

@DonlinNina@DanielaSnyder5 Agreed! The phrase 'comfort the afflicted; afflict the comfortable' really resounded with this theme. It can also be informative if someone sees a satirical headline and wants to do more in depth research themselves #UWJ201 #301
@GeorgiaMorrowww I agree. If we keep viewing opposing news sources as untrustworthy, would it be better just to settle on a neutral one? And would it even be possible to get people on board with this idea? #UWJ201 #301
@alanahowley @Terence_Mooney Agreed! It is also why it's more entertaining to watch the Kardashians or read gossip tabloids than something more informative. I don't think it's because people like to be angry--moreso they want something to rally for/against #301 #UWJ201
Perfect example for #UWJ201 (#301) of framing. @nypost 's platform frames Daniel Craig as a sexist, almost senile man, trying to hold on to an old acting gig, when he was instead advocating for better roles in the media to be written directly for women and BIPOC...
I read the article. He essentially said that instead of trying to fit a woman into this role, they should write an original character better than james bond for a woman.
@nevburleton It really depends on what the story is for. A documentary about the rapid deterioration of the ozone layer? While there may be a wish to gain profit on it, might not be as possible. The D'Amelio show? Might be a bit different...

I think it's super interesting that television not only emphasizes gender roles/stereotypes, but also correlates to a stronger orientation towards consumption. As TV becomes more diversified, will this trend with consumption continue?
#UWJ201 #301
@LaurenJardine10 @bpc546 I think this would always be the ideal, but it's doubtful that people actually do this on important issues; especially with social media platforms cultivating a bubble of content that people are comfortable with #UWJ201 #301
