@mcapel4@ThatEricAlper I appreciate your pedestrian ramblings. I'll just repeat: 'perfect' is what we wanted to see. This movie mirrored us warming up to the idea of a bigger chick being the main character. They weren't gonna flaunt it like Lizzo, this is what that cultural warming up looked like.
@mcapel4@ThatEricAlper This is a fun circle you're running in. Case in point: this didn't age badly, it's reflective of the people back then, even people emerging into thinking it's ok for someone that size to be the main character. Can't lie about what we were.
@mcapel4@ThatEricAlper The audience accepting nothing less but close to perfection in media back then was so huge it's laughable to try sweep it under the table today. And yes social pressure definitely coincided with how we looked and mirrored by media. Why do you think this movie was even popular lol
The voice behind Lilo and Chihiro has sadly passed away today at just 35 😔
According to TMZ, Chase’s boyfriend said she died Tuesday after meningitis and a blood infection led to septic complications. TMZ also reported that she had been hospitalized in Los Angeles earlier this month due to malnutrition.
For many fans, her voice is tied to two unforgettable childhood classics: Lilo & Stitch, where she brought Lilo Pelekai’s emotion, loneliness, and warmth to life, and Spirited Away, where she voiced Chihiro Ogino in the English dub of Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning masterpiece.
She also became a horror icon as Samara Morgan in The Ring, a role that earned her the 2003 MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.
Rest in peace, Daveigh Chase. Her voice and performances became part of an entire generation’s memories. 🕊️
