I think Brandel can be really good. Great even. But to me this is more a sign of what he has become of late, hot takes for the sake of hot takes. No one believes the Players is the best field and he knows that better than anyone. To say it's the “best Major” is truly ridiculous, and seriously erodes his credibility.

Takes like this, ones even he can't possibly believe, are further away from what Ive liked about Brandel. I always respected he said what he wanted and believed. But now I tune out a lot of what he says because it's too often takes like this.

How a Monday can change your life and how thin the margin of making and not making it is: (its a long one)

Ian Holt just won his second KFT event in just the third event of the season. His PGA Tour card for 2027 is basically locked up. But his journey here is the story.

20 months ago Holt was playing a Monday Q in Victoria BC for the Americas Tour. It was 8 years into his pro career. He had played KFT the previous season and struggled, making just 6 of 16 cuts. Losing his status.

Without status he was at a crossroads. That day at the Monday Q in Victoria he was one of 5 players to shoot -4 and was good enough by a single stroke, to get into that weeks Americas event.

Top 25 gets players into the next week. And Holt played the final 9 in -2 to sneak into the top 25 and earn a spot in the next weeks event.

The next week he made the cut, but a third round 75 left him 58th. With 5 holes left in the final round he was well outside of the top25.

All he did was birdie the next three holes in a row, shot 67 and finished in a TEN way tie for 23rd. Good enought to earn a start the following week. One missed putt and he wouldn't have got into the following week. And guess what happened the next week?

He won. A final round 62 gave him a two-shot victory.

But the close calls weren't over. At the Tour Championship he came into the final round 11th in points. The top 10 get KFT cards.

In the final round he shot +1 on the very difficult course (winning score for the week was -5) and Stuart MacDonald shot 78. Holt passed him on the season long points list by just 6 points. Had MacDonald shot 76, Holt wouldn't have earned his card*

Now just 20 months after playing in an Americas Tour Monday Q, Holt is (99.9%) on his way to the PGA Tour in 2027, or before if he wins once more.

Unreal.
