Welcome to Project #growthegame. A grassroots project supporting grassroots soccer in Canada. We’ve lost over 300,000 registered youth soccer players since 2008! The game needs you, check us out to see why and how you can help.

After modest year-over-year post-pandemic participation gains, we are seeing it in freefall again following @CanadaSoccerEN Grassroots program implementation... in a #WorldCup year that we are hosting!
#WeCAN#growthegame
While we are pleased to see @CanadaSoccerEN registrations picking up in recent years, the state of participation in the game today is still a long way off our glory days of the early 2000's.
Facts matter. Get them here:

"participation across the country has never been stronger"
Hey @BMO, @CanadaSoccerEN 2024 registrations are down 114,291 since their 2008 high. Participation, which is relative to population, is even worse down 2.5%
You've been fed misinformation.

Every single license up to and including the C License should be free for everyone! No one should be required to pay for a license to hold an unpaid position anywhere in the soccer pyramid. #WeCAN#growthegame
If you want to recruit more coaches, the first step is to stop treating coach licensing as a revenue stream. Volunteers will never pay your exorbitant fees and most clubs can't afford to reimburse them. #WeCAN#growthegame
A little bit of a walk back from Canada Soccer here in the face of fierce backlash from the community. The question is, is it too late for MA's to pivot and prevent an exodus?
#WeCAN#growthegame
FUN FACT: As League One Canada, the Canadian Premier League and the Northern Super League continue to grow, the power and influence of Canada Soccer and its Member Associations over Grassroots wanes. More pathways equal more player choice!

@CanadaSoccerEN own research from the past few decades consistently show kids top priority is to play the game and have fun. Their own LTPD program recommends a 2:1 or 3:1 practice to game ratio.

We already know most kids leave sports around the age of 13-14 because they're not having fun anymore. Someone please explain how reducing the one thing kids enjoy most - the game - is going to make things more fun and keep them in the game longer 🤔

I think @League1Canada has more than proven their best is capable and deserving of competing in the @CPLsoccer. Who wants to see the #L1CA best promoted and the #CanPL worst relegated? 🙋🏼♂️ #RiseAsOne
@CanadaSoccerEN currently recreational players pay a few hundred dollars per season, competitive players pay a couple thousand per year, how will the Grassroots Program reconcile this stark difference while retaining players?
#WeCAN#growthegame
@CanadaSoccerEN, league fees are a significant part of player registration fees. If U8-U13 don't compete under a league format & clubs are to organize & run festival style matches, will player registration fees be significantly reduced by Grassroots Program?
#WeCAN#growthegame
Perhaps more importantly, how do leagues generate sufficient revenue to support the older age groups representing a mere 25% of their current playing membership?
#WeCAN#growthegame
Would love to hear from league representatives and directors how they feel about Canada Soccer's Grassroots program and the real or perceived implications it may have on their league.
#WeCAN#growthegame
If Member Organizations are now tasked with organizing and running U8 - U13 programming, what do leagues offer this cohort representing about 75% of their playing membership? How do they generate revenue from this group?
