Look at how the PSG players immediately stopped appealing the moment the referee waved it away. Only Marquinhos approached the ref, and the bench stayed calm. Zero drama.
Now contrast that with Mikel Arteta and Arsenal. When Madueke pulled down Nuno Mendes and intentionally went down looking for a soft penalty, the Arsenal players threw a collective tantrum on the pitch. Arteta rallied his entire bench, screaming at the officials for almost a minute and nearly interrupting the game.
That’s the exact brand of tactical tantrum he throws in the PL to bully weak English referees who completely lack authority.
What makes Arteta truly embarrassing is his shameless desperation. Later on, when Gyokeres’ shot got deflected for a corner, Arteta was up in the fourth official's face demanding a handball penalty. Then we saw the replay, and the ball wasn't even close to a PSG player's arm.
He’s a certified embarrassment to the beautiful game.
The best angle of the Arsenal manufactured foul they've been doing all season and getting away with.
Grab the opponent and then go down like he fouled you, dragging them down at the same time.
It should be a PGMOL training film but probably won't be.
Yesterday’s refereeing was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time.
For the first 15 minutes, the ref fell for Arsenal’s shenanigans: blowing a foul for every slight fall and every little touch. Then, all of a sudden, he clocked their dirty antics and took complete control of the game.
He stopped buying their silly theatrics: Mosquera time wasting, Havertz falling at every slight touch, Saka wasting time for the corner, Arteta touchline tantrums, Madueke diving. I can go on and on
Arsenal have become so used to getting away with this cunning stuff from Premier League refs that they seemed genuinely shocked when it didn’t work.
I’m glad the referee refused to be intimidated and stood his ground. That’s how you referee a final.
You might con your way to a Premier League title, but you can’t do it in the UCL. Either you play like real men or go home
This is hilarious because it'll say something like "Chelsea did not suffer any VAR mistakes" while Bentancur trying to break Reece James' leg was "checked and cleared by VAR" and Caicedo got sent off vs Arsenal for an identical challenge that Diarra got a yellow for on Colwill
Apparently , we were able to survive this last season because VAR had to save little face, and the referees have been outrageously biased against Chelsea.
Left to the referees, we probably would have gotten relegated.
My God , I've never seen anything like this in my life.
@TacticallyMatt This either means Everton had bad VAR decisions, or even more likely referees were giving them favourable calls that VAR had to reverse.
@SocExpFlakeFC@TacticallyMatt This isn't talking about that, it's not saying wring or right calls rather just the direction they are. Ie the ref made a call in real time which needed intervention from VAR, you are talking about no intervention but there's a few teams not named Arsenal who this applies to.
