USS Alabama (BB-60) was built for a fight, not a parade. At 680 feet and 35,000 tons, she was compact by battleship standards; a South Dakota-class bruiser designed to hit hard and absorb punishment. Top speed: 27.5 knots. Her war was the Pacific, and she earned it.

USS Iowa (BB-61) was something else entirely. At 887 feet and 45,000 tons, she was longer than three football fields and fast enough (33 knots) to keep pace with the carriers she was built to protect. That combination of size and speed made her not just a battleship, but a bodyguard for the entire fleet.

Alabama punched above her weight. Iowa simply outweighed everyone.

The gap between them isn't just numbers. It's a statement about what the Navy needed at different moments. Alabama was the workhorse of classic fleet engagements. Iowa was a different animal; a ship that outlasted WWII, showed up in Korea, came back from retirement during the Cold War, and was still firing her guns in the Gulf War four decades after her commissioning.

Both carry the same armament. Both are now museum ships. But Iowa's resume is longer, her hull is bigger, and her legacy is harder to summarize in a single war.

After he walked out a woman went to the counter and told the cashier that he had scooped several items into his bag before leaving

The cashier said he does it all the time but the company wouldn’t let her call the police because they wouldn’t do anything anyway and it looks bad

Everyone has been in this situation, they see a black person breaking the law or just the basic rules of civilized society but they stay quiet because they know that the black person will likely become violent if confronted and they will be called racist

This is great. Good for this judge. It's best for everyone to push ahead with this trial in an expeditious way.

Whether the final outcome is right or wrong it's best not to string this out for a long time.

Yes, we will be in court tomorrow— Saturday. Judge hopes to be done with trial by June 12. Since he has no idea how long jury might take to deliberate, he’s asking everyone to be in court tomorrow (Saturday) in hopes of being done by June 12.

Why is Elon Musk so obsessed with what's going on in Britain?

The billionaire owner of Tesla and X has been busy posting on his social media platform about the murder of Henry Nowak and what it says about the state of British policing. What does Musk actually know about policing in this country?

What the tech mogul definitely does know about is how to stir the pot. According to a report in the Financial Times, Musk has written more than 110 posts, retweets and replies about British politics since last Wednesday on X.

This is almost three times the share devoted to his company Space X, which is valued at $1.8 trillion (£1.3 trillion) ahead of its highly anticipated IPO next week.

Musk is all fired up about the murder of 18-year-old Henry, which has led to accusations of ‘two-tier policing’ after it emerged police had arrested him for alleged racial abuse as he lay dying.

There were violent clashes with police in Southampton this week near to where he was killed by Vickrum Digwa, who was given a life sentence on Monday. Musk criticised how ‘heinously’ Nowak was treated by the police in a series of posts:

He's "been unavailable." That's their reason. What more could the judge want to know? "Trust me, bro" is their attitude throughout this case, from the first few hours.

@Darlamama @trialchannel_ @KyleSharkey8 Yes, I think others have speculated that too. Before we see the Lexus in this clip there is clearly a ring of snow on the floor where a vehicle had just been. Some think that what we see here is the Lexus entering for a second time, not the first time.
