The calculation of percentages or "TV Ratings" in Thailand is currently based primarily on data from media research companies like Nielsen.
Here is the principle behind the percentages and how they are measured:
1⃣What does a 1% (or 1.0) rating mean?
The rating number we see represents the percentage of the target population that is watching a specific program at that given time.
In Thailand, the primary population base used for this measurement is people nationwide aged 4 and above, which is currently around 61.5 million people (this baseline is regularly updated based on demographic statistics).
🎯Rough calculation of viewership:
- 1.0 Rating = 1% of 61.5 million = approximately 615,000 viewers
- 0.1 Rating = 0.1% of 61.5 million = approximately 61,500 viewers
🔹Example: If a TV drama gets a rating of 5.0, it means that over 3 million people nationwide were watching it at that time.
2⃣Where do they get the data, and how can they represent the whole country?
Media research companies do not install tracking devices on every TV in Thailand. Instead, they use statistical principlesto calculate the ratings:
🔸Sample Size Selection: They randomly select thousands of sample households nationwide. This sample is carefully distributed to accurately reflect the real population, covering urban and rural areas, all regions, income levels, genders, and age groups.
🔹Using a "People Meter": A measurement box is installed on the TVs of these sample households. When family members watch TV, they must press a specific remote control to identify themselves (to categorize viewers by gender and age). The device records which channel and program are being watched and transmits the data back to a processing center.
▪️Projection: Once they have the viewing percentage from the sample group, the system multiplies this data to project it across the total national population, which gives us the final rating number.
3⃣The Modern Era: Cross-Platform Measurement.
Because people today do not watch programs exclusively on traditional TV screens, the rating system has evolved into Total Audience Measurement.
This means they now combine viewers watching live on traditional TV with those watching via digital platforms and streaming (such as TV channel websites and online TV apps).
The system is designed to filter out duplicate viewers (for example, if one person watches on a TV and a mobile phone at the same time, they are only counted as one viewer) to ensure the rating numbers accurately reflect the true audience size in the digital age.

I heard there was a major volleyball match in Thailand against Canada airing at the exact same time as EP.6.
The fact that The Air STILL managed to break the 2.0 mark, let alone pull a 2.4 rating, is absolutely insane.
Once again, it proves that FreenBecky are far above the GL industry. They're not competing with other GL dramas, they're competing with mainstream lakorns.
This is how the true GP favorites look like. Certain wannabes can't relate.

Someone tell FreenBecky that the pandemic ended a long time ago. There's no need to social distance themselves from the rest with that much gap, lmao.
This is what happens when your chemistry isn't manufactured in a lab and your engagement is organic. The GP is loving The Air.

We also need to honor our achievements and other happy moments in our lives. I think this serves as a really good mental immunity. There was a time this year, I remember, where I had high hopes for a particular job, but I didn’t get it. I felt so terrible. I thought to myself, 'Wow, why am I such a useless content creator? Like, 'Why couldn't I do it?'
But when I thought about it again later... Sure, things didn't go as planned. But does that mean I should generalize and say I'm a completely useless content creator?
If another version of me were sitting right here next to me, she would have smacked me on the head by now! Like, 'How can you say something like that to yourself? You have to respect your own effort, your dedication, and the small successes you've achieved along the way too. How can you judge yourself based on a single event and conclude that you're a useless content creator? Or like, how can you take just this one issue and generalize that your whole life is miserable? It's just a few isolated incidents.
Respect your other past efforts as well. Don't generalize like that. It's not a bad life. It's just a bad day. Honour your happiness and other achievements in life. That's all it is.

"Just wanted to share a quick story about the vibe when everyone finds out the ratings... Not sure how it is elsewhere but this is just my personal experience 🙂
Every team responsible for their respective shows gets the numbers at the same time. When a show gets high ratings and compliments, that team is all smiles 😁
But when a show gets low ratings thewy will be dead silence about it🤐
But the moment they mention #เสน่หาวาโย 's ratings every single team thought exact same thing "Damn that's huge" "Incredible" "Absolutely killing it" So many words of praise flying around...
P.S. Nothing major just wanted to share it 555555555 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍" - P'Nan (work at ch7)
