🎥 | A massive fire at a bed and breakfast in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning claimed 21 lives, including 17 foreign nationals from Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Bangladesh. Police confirmed that the property’s owner, Lokesh Bajaj of Saket, is absconding. The establishment, Flourish Stay B&B, was known to host foreign visitors arriving on medical visas due to its proximity to AIIMS, Max Hospital, and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal reported that the blaze was first reported at 8:48 a.m., prompting immediate rescue and evacuation efforts. Eight fire tenders were deployed, and more than 40 individuals were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals. Max Hospital stated that of the 39 patients received, 18 were brought dead, 15 remain in intensive care with eight on ventilators, while five were treated for minor injuries and discharged. One patient with severe burns was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital.

Authorities have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against unknown persons. Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood directed officials to seal all bed and breakfast establishments found violating building norms without issuing notices or allowing explanations. He also ordered a high-level inspection of B&Bs across Malviya Nagar and the wider capital.

Local MLA Satish Upadhyay, who visited the site, said the disaster response system was activated immediately, involving the Disaster Management team, district officials, and municipal authorities. He emphasized that the cause of the fire will only be determined after a thorough investigation.

Rescue operations are still underway, with victims admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre, Max Hospital in Saket, and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital. Officials confirmed that 13 of the injured are being treated at AIIMS. The incident has triggered urgent calls for stricter enforcement of safety regulations in guesthouses across Delhi.
