L.A. is no stranger to 100° days during the summer, but this year, the heat feels different. More suffocating, oppressive, and honestly. . .just hotter.
So why does L.A. feel so hot this year?

I managed to get the entire main stem to change to purple while still controlling Anthocyanin production on the actual flower. How?
72°F for 4 hours. 78°F for 4 hours. 59°F for 4 hours. 65°F for 8 hours. PPFD at 400. RH 55%
The idea on this was to trigger the C1 gene with minimal and heavy stress intentionally and see results. The pink/purple hue on the main cola in the video is from heavy stress AND lateral triggering. I did this to see which different mechanisms will express the MYB family more. Want to try yourself?
78°F for 6 hours. 65°F for 6 hours. 60°F for 4 hours. 50°F for 8 hours. PPFD at 300. RH 60%.

Activating the phenylpropanoid pathway to trigger the color change on this was tricky. Only 30% of the plant changed, but seeing that it’s possible is the important thing.

Deficiency or DNA? 🧬
True P-deficiency shows as reddish stems and dark/bronze leaves.
Phosphorus is MOBILE. The plant pulls it from lower/older leaves to feed new growth. If your new growth is showing symptoms, it’s an IMMOBILE nutrient issue.
Look at the whole plant. 🔍🌱
