Be ready to be amazed by the way Modi govt has handled the situation and made sure that India doesn't run out of gas.

Before the war, Qatar supplied around 1 million tonnes LNG/month India. In Sep26, that fell to just around 94,000 tonnes. In 2025, Qatar alone accounted for roughly 46% of India's LNG imports. The US supplied around 12%, the UAE 13%, and Oman 8%.

Then came the Iran war and the disruption of shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

India's sourcing pattern changed dramatically.
* Oman: 0.18 million tonnes/month in 2025 → 0.59 million tonnes in September 2026.

* Nigeria: around 0.1 million tonnes/month → 0.35 million tonnes in September.

* US: around 0.24 million tonnes/month in 2025 to 0.34 million tonnes/month

And we not reduced our LNG intake. India's total LNG imports still reached 2.24 million tonnes in Sep26, 7%+ YoY.

The critical advantage was diversification. Oman can ship LNG without transiting the Strait of Hormuz, while supplies from the US and Nigeria offer alternative routes and sources.

This diversification didn't happen magically. Modi visited Oman in Dec25, UAE in Jan26 to secure LNG supplies (a full two months before the war started. I wonder how he knew this).

Energy security is not just about who supplies you in normal times. It is about how quickly you can adapt when your largest supplier becomes inaccessible.

If Congress had been in power, the country would have seen a severe shortage of gas, and anyone criticising the government would have been jailed immediately. We are lucky that it is Modi who is handling the country.
