Grand Theft Auto was not born in a New York boardroom. It was born in Dundee, Scotland, and one of the people who created it was Mike Dailly ( @mdf200 ) .
DMA Design was founded in the late 80s by David Jones alongside Dailly, Russell Kay and Steve Hammond, all from the same amateur computer club. Dailly is widely described as the studio's first employee and a Co-founder. That studio is now Rockstar North.
@mdf200 designed the original prototype of Grand Theft Auto: a top-down view of a city that actually felt alive. He was shooting prototype footage as early as 1994, before the project even officially began in April 1995, and years before anyone knew what it would become. The game he helped build shipped with three cities: Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City. Thirty years later they are still the map of the entire franchise
The game shipped on 28 November 1997, and the rest is the biggest franchise in gaming.
Nearly thirty years later, GTA 6 is taking us back to Vice City. One of the three cities from the game he helped build in Dundee.
Worth remembering who was actually in the room.

Heading to Amsterdam/Zandvoort for the Dutch F1. Looks like the sprint race may be a wet one! That’ll be awesome!
Again, thanks to all the @gtacommunitysol and $GTA folks, it’s great to see such passion for something I knocked up almost 30 years ago!!!
