PRIVATE DUTY NURSE GETS 15 YEARS FOR ABUSING MAN KNOWN AS “MIRACLE BOY.”
Jessica Elaine Overstreet, 30, was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to six counts of injuring Jonathan Carrington while employed as his nurse in his East Texas home.
Jonathan, now 29, survived a ruptured brain aneurysm as an infant.
He is blind, has severe disabilities and requires continuous care including help repositioning himself.
Overstreet pleaded guilty to five counts of bodily injury to a disabled individual and one count of serious bodily injury.
The offenses occurred between March 27 and April 4, 2022. Her six sentences will run concurrently.
His mother, Tammy Carrington, said she discovered the abµse after reviewing home surveillance footage.
At sentencing, she described 172 assault videos and said she was grateful jurors would be spared having to watch them.
The case reached the district attorney’s office in 2022 but was not presented to a grand jury until November 2025, after newly appointed District Attorney Amy Wren reviewed it.
Tammy kept fighting to make sure her son’s case was not forgotten.
She was hired to provide the care Jonathan depended on. Instead, she hurt a man who could not protect himself.
