After a series of spelling and vocabulary hurdles, Newton bowed out of the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., United States.
His commendable 67th position (out of 247) is the highest ever attained by any Nigerian at the global competition.
Aside from being the first Nigerian male to compete at the event, he also became the first Nigerian ever to reach the quarterfinal stage.

For over a century, the Scripps National Spelling Bee has stood as a showcase of American excellence in education, bringing together the world's brightest young minds to celebrate linguistic mastery and academic achievement. Newton earned his place at this iconic American competition following his historic win at a keenly contested national competition in Lagos.
Newton, we're all rooting for you as you compete on this distinguished stage of American educational excellence!

Oh,Did God feet in ancient time walk up on this mountain’s green?
Was there a blessing from on high or just an angel in disguise?
I attended a boarding school and it was the most beautiful experience of my life.
I grew up an only child and it was in boarding school that I learnt how to live in the same space as other people without conflict.
I learnt how to think and how to do things for myself.
I learnt independence. I will be forever grateful to my parents for sending me to @gticng
